有馬晋平さんは杉の木にて作品を創るアーテイストです。九州の大分にて制作活動をしています。今回アトリエにお邪魔して来ました。

彼の作品の“スギコダマ”はなんとも言えない優しい肌触りとその肌色や木目の美しさに特徴があります。

Shinpei Arima is the artist who works with Japanese Cedar. He is working at Oita in Kyushyu. I visited his atlier.

His famous work" SUGICODAMA" has soft skin touch, color and beautiful grain.

有馬さんのアトリエは柞原神社のある鎭寿の森の頂上にありました。柞原神社は歴史のある神社ですが、

人気もあまりなく静かなところで、樹齢３０００年の楠もあります。

His atlier is on top of the guardian forest hill near the Yusuhara Shinto shrine.

This Shrine is very old and there are not many people around here – it is a calm place.

There is an old tree (cinnamomum camphora) which is estimated to be over 3000 years old.

五月雨に緑がつややかな山の道をのぼりつめ、開けたところが有馬さんのアトリエです。なんとも広く、贅沢。

瀬戸内海から繋がる大分湾が見えます。周りはなにもないので雷はばんばん落ちる、いのししはよく群れで歩いてる、ムカデ、蛇、蜂となんでもいるそうです。

いろんな所から集まった杉たちが寝ていました。東京では考えられない贅沢な場所です。

In the green with the early summer rain, we went all the way to the top of the hill, his atlier is there. What a wide place!

We can see the Oita bay run into Seto Inland sea. Nothing is around here, lightning strikes everywhere, boars are often walking around.

There are centipedes, snakes, bees etc..Gathering  japanese cedar from everywhere, and stocking them here. We can't imagine such a rich  atmosphere in Tokyo.

有馬さんは杉を愛しています。杉は建築、造船、家具、日用品として葉っぱは日本家屋を香らせる線香の材料として日本独特の文化や産業を担って来た素材です。

また杉は日本にしか生息しません。有馬さん曰く、“杉は日本人のsoul treeであると確信しています、

だからこそこの“スギコダマ”が杉の木の声（木霊）となり人々に届くことをねがって制作している“　と。

Shinpei loves Japanese cedar. those trees have been used in architecture, ships, funiture, and daily products in Japan.

Even their leaves have been used as the material of incense. Cedar material has been taking the central role in Japanese culture and industrials.

This kind of cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) grows only in Japan.

Shinpei said "I am sure Cedar is the soul tree of Japanese, so I hope SUGICODAMA is going to be the echo of Cedar, and it reaches the people."
